Following our recent announcement regarding the thermal enhancement measures for Pocket EVO, we've noticed some differing opinions from Discord community. I'd like to provide additional clarification to help you better understand our approach.
Question: Why don't we provide thermal pads for users to enhance cooling?
Firstly, we are very familiar with thermal pads, as we used a 0.3mm thermal pad in the Pocket EVO at the factory. If thermal pads were the perfect optimization solution, it would be easier for us to implement. Since we are offering thermal grease for free, switching to thermal pads would be just as simple for users. However, we have tested thermal pads of various thicknesses, and during testing, 20% of the devices encountered a black screen issue, which could damage the motherboard and affect daily usage. While most users may not face this issue, we cannot guarantee a 100% success rate. As a brand, we aim to offer the most reliable solution. After extensive testing, we’ve concluded that a combination of thermal grease and the thermal pad is the best approach, and this solution has been validated across multiple devices.
Question: What if I don't agree with AYANEO's solution?
We understand that some users feel that replacing thermal grease with thicker thermal pads might provide better results. We've shared our perspective in previous announcements and explanations, and we hope you understand that our decisions are always made with the goal of providing the best solutions for our users. However, we respect differing opinions, so we've decided to include various thickness options for thermal pads in the cooling optimization kit for Pocket EVO:
In addition to the thermal grease, we'll include thermal pads with thicknesses of 0.3mm, 0.5mm, 0.8mm, and 1mm.
If your order ships before January 8th, upon receiving your cooling optimization kit, you'll have the option to use thermal grease for cooling or experiment with the thermal pads. However, please be aware that during our internal testing, we found that this solution might occasionally result in problems, and we don't recommend it. We respect your choice, but we encourage caution.
Question: Why offer multiple thicknesses of thermal pads?
We are offering several thicknesses so that users can experiment and find the best solution for their device. However, we want to remind you that due to the limited space between the motherboard and heatsink, using too thick a thermal pad could potentially cause deformation. During our testing, using a 0.5mm thermal pad caused black screen issues in 20% of the devices, and a 1mm thermal pad seemed to cause deformation in the motherboard. Although it may not cause immediate issues, we cannot guarantee long-term reliability.
Question: What if I use thermal pads for cooling and face issues—will I lose warranty?
We're retracting our previous statement, for orders shipped before January 8th, if you choose to use thermal pads for cooling optimization and encounter any issues, you will not lose warranty and still can receive our after-sales support.

Question: What about orders shipped after January 8th?
For orders shipped after January 8th, the cooling system will have already been optimized, and we've conducted 3D Mark tests at the factory, achieving scores between 3800-4500 (on high battery level). Users won't need to make additional adjustments. If you don't accept this optimized cooling solution, please contact our service desk for a refund.
Question: What if I've already applied thermal pads or thermal grease by myself?
If you've already made cooling optimizations yourself, please contact us. We would like to offer you a small gift as a token of appreciation: an AYANEO custom T-shirt and custom USB cable.
